As the saying goes, you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone. Like many things in life, most people don’t appreciate their youthful looks until they have long outgrown them! While it’s impossible to literally turn back the clock, anyone can look five to ten years younger depending on how they apply their makeup. Here are some tips you should be following to appear more youthful:

Keep your base makeup minimal.

Believe it or not, it doesn’t take an expert to achieve glowing, youthful skin using makeup. One rule of thumb is to choose the right shade for your skin, and keep things as natural as possible. Also, avoid applying too much base makeup. Heavy layers of foundation can cause the appearance of creasing and wrinkles, even if you don’t have any!

For best results, use a sponge to apply a lightweight formula such as BB cream to your skin. Then apply the product in sheer layers, building up coverage until you achieve your desired finish. Using this method, you can achieve smooth coverage while still letting the skin’s natural glow shine through.

Avoid heavy eye makeup.

If you want to appear more youthful, ditch the thick liner and dark eyeshadow. While a smoky eye looks good on a night out, heavy eye makeup also tends to make you look more mature! If you must, choose light, shimmery shades to wear on your eyelids, along with brown eyeliner. When paired with curled eyelashes and mascara, the overall look brightens up the eye area, while still appearing natural.

Embrace full eyebrows.

Put down the tweezers! Fuller, more natural looking eyebrows are the key to appearing more youthful than you actually are. If you’re lacking in the brow department, use an eyebrow pencil to lightly fill in any sparse areas. Just make sure not to overdo it, or your brows can end up looking too harsh. For the most natural results, you should choose a colour that’s one shade darker than your natural hair colour.

Skip the powder.

When it comes to youthful looking skin, it’s all about moisture. Resist the urge to apply a setting powder, and embrace the look of dewy, glowing skin! This is easy to achieve if you use a BB cream, or any foundation that has a luminous finish. To amp up the effect even further, use highlighter to accentuate the high points of your face, such as your cheekbones, eyebrow bone and nose bridge. The result is a complexion that looks as if it’s glowing from within.
